This is definitely a season I didn’t see coming. Never in a million years did I imagine that someday we would know what it’s like to live during a pandemic. It’s been a tough seven months for all of us. Of course, it’s not like coronavirus is the only hardship right now; people are still dealing with a variety of challenges. When I am struggling, music is always a great refuge, reminding me that there is hope. I wanted to share seven songs that have really encouraged me this year. If you are a Spotify user, I created a playlist that you can access here. I will also link the cover art for each of the songs to where you can listen on YouTube.
“Into the Sea (It’s Gonna Be Ok)”
Tasha Layton
“Family”
Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors
“Together”
for KING & COUNTRY (feat. Kirk Franklin and Tori Kelly)
“We’re Gonna Be Alright”
Switchfoot
BONUS SELECTION!!
My 7-year-old daughter requested that I add this one to the list … I’m not sure that it is actually “encouraging,” but it is entertaining!
I love this so much. My son, Jeremiah, is a senior in high school and was randomly diagnosed (I mean super random…mama’s gut feeling) with leukemia on a Tuesday afternoon (10.6.2020). He was admitted 3 days later to the UVA medical center. The day after his diagnosis I created a playlist titled “Family Fight Songs”…. “See the Light” is the only song on that playlist at this moment. It is incredibly fitting.
As I lay here awkake watching chemo kill all the bad and all the good in my baby (my 18 year old baby), I remind myself that we need to “keep on keepin’ on”.
It’s a pleasure to worship God during uncertain times. I’ve found that I’m not at the cross praying like I should be, but there are so many songs in my heart that are carrying me/us. So, while I lay here once again with another sleepless night, I am thankful for the post that your shared introducing your blog.
My 8 year old daughter loves “Together”, the remix version. We played that song over and over last weekend when I had a few days away from the hospital. I’m excited to see how God speaks to me through the words in the songs that you have chosen. It was not by chance that I opened Instagram and this was the first post I came to. 🧡
I’m so glad you found my post, Bobbi, and that it was encouraging to you! Thank you for letting me know. I’m very sorry that Jeremiah is dealing with luekemia and I will pray for both of you. I love how God speaks to us through music!
This is just an incredible idea! Thank you!
You’re welcome! Thank you for reading!
